The rear window shade won't work at all

You'll have to check for power and ground present at the motor when activated. If there is no power and ground, troubleshooting the circuit and related control module is in order. If there is power and ground, the shade itself could be faulty. A diagnostic tool will be capable of checking "body" component operation to see if a signal is being sent and what the result is.
