Estimate to replace driver side headlight ballast?

2007 Toyota Avalon- The low beam light would intermittently go out, sometimes for days, then for no reason it would be on again. I took to mechanic, they pulled the bulb and showed me it was burnt out. They replaced it $340 total price. 3 days later it went out again, I called them and they said they did the work right and the bulb looks fine so we may need to replace your ballast. I asked for a estimate but they said they would have to troubleshoot the car 1st to narrow a price range. I'm out of town for 2 weeks and hoping someone on here could give me a estimate or at least a price range less than $90-$690.
