What is your question?
I have a 2006 Toyota avalon with only 165k miles. I had a bad # 5 coil pack. The mechanic replaced 1, 3 & 5 with Toyota coil packs and replaced 6 spark plugs. When I drove my car leaving the mechanic and came to my first red light I was braking and as my car got to 10 mph it shifted very hard down to 1st gear. It does it everytime I stop. I took it back and he mentioned that it needed to catch up with being reprogrammed. Any advise....is this true? Day 2 and still downshifting into 1st really hard. It shifts & drives fine shifting up gears. It only downshifting hard into 1st gear. Right at 10mph. It does idle alittle high too now.
What makes this problem better or worse?
It does it everytime I stop.. it downshift harder when coming to a complete stop.
How long has your 2006 Toyota Avalon had this problem?
2 days...Immediately after coil pack & plugs were replaced

I honestly don't know any correlation between spark plugs and coil replacement and then a sudden transmission hard downshift concern. It would lead me to want to check all wiring in the area that the work was performed in the event something is displaced perhaps accidentally. Other than that, diagnostic testing is recommended for the transmission and engine performance -- is there anything coming up abnormal using a diagnostic tool capable of not only retrieving trouble codes but also monitor component operation data? www.repairpal.com/repair-shops
