What is your question?
My father told me the timing belt has to be changed and that the power steering needs more juice. Things I’ve noticed: whenever I turn on the car the rpms go up to 3-4 as if I’m stepping on the acceleration, then it calms down after 5-10 seconds; when the ac is on, the car makes a screeching sound whenever I accelerate or decelerate, it goes away after 5-10 minutes.
What makes this problem better or worse?
It’s worse when the engine is cold
How long has your 2001 Toyota Avalon had this problem?
About 2 months

Hi, this is Bo, an auto expert on RepairPal's Car Genius team! That nasty check engine light is so annoying! The codes you’re seeing suggest two issues: P0330 points to a knock sensor problem, which could be causing that weird RPM spike when you start the car. P1351 is about the variable valve timing (VVT) system, which might need a closer look. Finally, that screeching when the A/C is on sounds like a worn or loose belt, likely your serpentine belt. If the belt’s slipping, it could also be linked to your power steering noise. Verify whether the issue lies with the sensors, wiring, or something else. We don't want to throw parts at the car. If it's time for the timing belt, the serpentine belt has to come off anyway. So that should be included in the replacement. If you have any other questions, please call us at 877-913-1554!
