Hi, I'm one of the auto experts on RepairPal's Car Genius team! Sorry to hear you are having issues with your Toyota Avalon not starting. It sounds like there is still an issue with the shifter or shift linkage. If it doesn’t sense that you are in Park or Neutral it won’t let the car start or allow a signal to even get to the fuel pump. If you have power to the fuel pump and the dash is properly recognizing N or P, it is possible that you have something else going on that it keeping it from starting that just coincidentally happened after the other repair. However, I would want to double check everything with that shifter to eliminate that as the source of your issues first. It may not be a bad idea to have a certified shop take a look at it as they will be able to accurately hone in on the root cause and what the appropriate solution is.
