Exhaust fumes and soot forms on the back door and window. Fumes when window open

Thank you for your reply. We were told that we don't drive the car enough. We just made 15,000 miles since we bought the car. We have driven it to San Francisco and St. George Utah. Toyota is not addressing our concerns. They are blaming the owners. The soot is so bad that our clothes have been ruined with the stain from the soot. I appreciate your reply!

In no way does the amount of driving the vehicle cause this issue. At all. If it is broken it will be broken no matter how much it is driven. This is not normal. Does it do this all the time?

Yes it is all the time. We have to have the car washed often. We didn't know why our clothes were getting so dirty every time we open the back hatch or buy gas, our clothes have black soot on them. When we had the back window open to carry a large box, I became sick from the fumes that filled the car. I have a 2003 4 runner which never had this problem.

Ya, go to another dealer and contact corporate. Not normal at all.

Thank you for your time and advise. I really appreciate both. I will follow up with corporate if the service department doesn't fix the problem. I bought the extended warrantee for 8 years. I am asking them to put a sleeve on the exhaust pipe however it only disguises the real problem and may clog the system. Have a great day and again, thank you.
