What is your question?
My 2010 4Runner shifts up to 5 th gear when I’m at a slow speed, 20-30 mph. The engine bogs down as you would expect when going to slow for the higher gear….like when you fail to downshift when driving a manual transmission and you slow down. I have to gas/rev the engine to get it to downshift. It started doing this at About 120k miles. I had the transmission fluid serviced, but didn’t help. If I use S mode and manually shift, it seems to work fine. This only occurs if I’m in Drive mode. The engine light is not on, no dash lights are on.
What makes this problem better or worse?
When the engine is bucking, if I shift from drive to S mode, it shifts down to 4th gear and power is restored.
How long has your 2010 Toyota 4Runner had this problem?
6 months or so…my mechanic says it’s fine, but I need to drive with him to point out the problem

Hello, I'm not sure there's a problem occurring either. Perhaps it's working fore vehicle economy due to learned adaptive strategy. The engine should never "buck" so there could be an engine performance concern there somewhere that needs to be addressed. Bucks was the wrong description/word…it bogs down like when someone fails to downshift a manual transmission when slowing down. Imagine trying to accelerate while in 5th gear at only 20 mph. Is there a way to reprogram the ECONOMY mode?
