What is your question?
While I was driving my car with no warning just died on me. No sputter or anything, it just completely shut off. However It was able to start again a little bit after this happened. Then the next day I went to see if it would still start and it did but one of the belts made a loud screeching noise for a couple of seconds after I had started it. I had gotten my alternator worked on a few months ago but it didn't start doing this until now. Before this happened though it would smell like burning rubber every time I turned on the ac. I drive a 1999 Toyota 4runner.
How long has your 1999 Toyota 4Runner had this problem?
A couple of days

Hello, Dave here, contributing to RepairPal and providing expert advice since 2010. The clue I am getting here is that the drive belt may be slipping due to a pulley that could be binding. This does not need to be an alternator pulley - it could be a an idler pulley, a tensioner pulley, an air conditioner pulley, a power steering pulley or a water pump pulley binding. This can cause engine stall, it can cause difficulty restarting, and can cause charging system issues even. Hands on inspection is needed t see what is going on.
