What is your question?
When I open the trunk using either the button on my key fob or the trunk itself, it fully opens as expected. However, as soon as it reaches the fully open position, I hear a long beep, and the trunk begins to slowly close on its own. It pauses and beeps at the one-third closed position, then continues closing. It pauses and beeps again at the two-thirds mark before fully closing. I have already tried resetting the trunk, but the issue persists. Does anyone know what might be causing this or how to fix it?

Hi, my name is Devin. I am an auto repair expert with the Car Genius team here at RepairPal. I’m sorry to hear you're having trouble with your vehicle. If your Outback's trunk doesn't stay open, it could be due to a few potential issues. The beeping and automatic closing suggest that the power liftgate system might be detecting an obstruction or a fault. First, check for any physical obstructions or debris around the trunk area that might be triggering the sensors. If the area is clear, the issue might be related to the liftgate's settings or a malfunctioning sensor. Sometimes, the liftgate's memory settings can be reset by manually adjusting the height and holding the button until it beeps, but it sounds like you've already tried resetting it. Another possibility is a problem with the liftgate motor or control module. If the issue persists, it might be best to have a professional diagnose the system to identify the exact cause and ensure the liftgate functions properly.
