What is your question?
I accidentally had the wind spray oil across my engine this morning. I have wiped off what I could and used dawn dish soap and warm water to try and clean it. I do not have access to a sprayer. There was no oil puddling so it wasnt a lot but it most likely is more than a capful. The engine was off and has remained off. How do I know if its clean and safe to drive?

Hello, I’m Pete from the Car Genius team at RepairPal. I’m sorry you’re dealing with this concern on your 2013 Subaru Outback. I recommend inspecting the engine as best as possible for any left over oil spray and wiping it clean. It is also a good idea to make sure there is no open spark from something like a damaged ignition coil, spark plug wire, or spark plug itself. If you have cleaned off as much oil as possible usually you are safe to start the engine, it may smoke a very small amount until any excess oil burns off. If you start to see excessive smoke I recommend turning off the engine and having someone clean it for you using a pressure washer making sure to not get any water inside any electrical connections or electrical components.
