What is your question?
it was running great then it would die when stopped. I am not an auto mechanic, more like princess and the pea. It seems to be its respiration and idle. It does need one spark plug i.e. incomplete tune up. Marooned for days in an urgent family situation and I do not feel it is the alternator, maybe an "apendage" battery fine enough. It makes a strange electric old ehhhh doorbell sound when turning key to start. It was just fine for hundreds of miles, purchased used one week ago. I do smell fresh gas when just filled and remember a vehicle with spraying fuel injectors. Mechanics stonewalling as if I don't know what is now my car. SOS
What makes this problem better or worse?
Lack of a long charge. When it was charged and I drove right away it stopped when slow
How long has your 1998 Subaru Legacy had this problem?
recent

Hello, I have to admit I'm not entirely sure what is going on based off of what you asked. If a vehicle stalls when stopped, does it restart if you crank it over? If it is not lacking battery power, I don't think the alternator is a concern. The alternator serves to recharge the battery. The battery serves to run the vehicle accessories continually at constant voltage. I don't know what you mean by the spark plug or smelling like fresh gas. As this vehicle is new to you, I would recommend getting a technician working on it that knows what they're doing. "Stonewalling" sounds like an unfortunate situation. I would recommend another pair of eyes on the car. https://repairpal.com/auto-repair-near-me Click the link or call us at 877-913-1554. We'll gladly find you a certified RepairPal shop in your area.
