all oil changes done by Subaru dealer. At most recent oil change removal of drain plug also removed parts of four thread ridges in oil pan opening. Dealership service manager states that this happened because car is 22 years old and oil has been changed 60 + times and car is weathered and old. Does it make sense that a well built properly maintained Subaru Legacy would wear out like this?

Hello, Threads stripped out of an oil drain pan is typically the result of cross threading of the drain plug in the oil pan, or the use of excessive force to tighten or loosen the drain plug. If in fact the dealership in question has been changing the oil exclusively for 22 years, then they likely have some culpability in my opinion. But, it is true -- it may indeed not be the result of some grossly negligent incident. If it's my dealership, and you're my customer, and you are loyal as you've said -- I replace it at no charge for you as a goodwill gesture.
