What is your question?
1999 Forester, 55,000 miles, told that the rear main oil seal leaks. When I come home and park in the garage the car smells like burning rubber and has for several months. The shop already replaced something to do with the oil several months ago. Thank you.

The chances of a rear main seal leak are slim. I believe you have a rear baffle plate leaking, which is very common on these vehicles. The factory ones were plastic and would crack from the heat. The fix is to replace it with an aluminum one and seal it with Hi-Temp RTV. Hope this helps. Ron- subaru master
