40,040 miles on car, oil and filter changed 1666 miles ago. The maintenance required signal is on and manual says oil needs changing? I am traveling away from home and have not located a dealer. Is this serious?

The maintenance required signal on the dash board is on "all the time". I have no other problems with the car.

Obviously some-one forgot to reset the maintenance reminder at last oil change. Manual gives instructions to reset - do so before next trip. No worries.

Can remember the 1,666 is already on this oil change and adjust accordingly.. This is IF you want to keep servicing at a particular mileage driven.
