Is your Speedo working properly? Most likely your vehicle computer is getting incorrect input signals from the transmission or tps. Any codes?

No codes at all ! I'm just hoping I don't have to buy a new transmission

Manual transmission? Linkage failure checked? What other symptoms or work was done prior to this failure?

If you don't know exactly what to look for , then you'd probably want someone at a shop to check it.
