The ignition switch locked up and I drilled out the tumblers now the passlock is activated and I have tried to relearn the key, however the key has no Chip in it. I don't know how it was running to start with but how can I clear the alarm

Hi this is Dusty, I'm one of the auto experts on RepairPal's Car Genius team! Hey Bruce! Sounds like you're dealing with a tricky situation. That generation of factory GM/Saturn keys have the chip embedded in the body of the key; aftermarket keys will vary of course. As for clearing the alarm, it'll likely take some investigation with a diagnostic device to see if bypassing or deactivating the alarm (VATS) system is possible. It's possible the Passlock sensor may have been damaged during the drilling of the ignition tumblers resulting in the system being unable to relearn the key. A firsthand investigation by a competent technician should be able to pinpoint the issue and provide next steps for a remedy. They'll have access to specific procedures, tools, schematics and most importantly, your vehicle's data to help get your Vue back on track.
