Engine idles fast, runs on at engine shut-off

What is your question?

Ever since my last oil change, the engine idles at 2000rpm (normal is about 900) and diesels violently at shut-off. Used to be that adding oil would solve this--now it's not. Any ideas where to start looking before I take the car to the shop?
