it appears either the hydraulics let go or the cable is bent but something suddenly is preventing me from shifting my 1999 saturn sc2 manual five speed into either fifth or reverse..both seem to be nonexistent. thanks for your help

Underneath the center console is a pin that connects the stick-shift to the transmission bar. Mine broke and was able to resolve it for less than $5.00. However, removing the center console is "fairly easy" as you just unplug the connectors to the electric windows, locks and mirror. However, reattaching them is next to impossible because the wiring is so short. I had to cut them, solder 12 inchs of wire to each one to make it much much easier to connect the connectors. Be sure to either wrap your solder connections with electrical t as pe or shrink wrap them to prevent shorts.
