Why will my transmission pull only in first and reverse?

My transmission will only pull in first and reverse. It makes a loud clunking noise when switching from forward to first. The fluid is clean and full. It worked great until today.

What makes this problem better or worse?

How long has your 2007 Saturn Relay had this problem?

It started making the clunking noise this morning but drove fine for a fifteen Mile drive and then another seven Mile drive.
