How much can I expect to pay for a SMOG certificate at a test only station?
The certificate itself anywhere you go is an $8.25 fee. The station testing can be "Test Only", "Test and Repair" or "Gold Shield". Test Only folks can only test for smogs. Test and repair can test and repair problems to get it to pass smog. Gold Shield is a specially certified smog station. Each shop charges a labor charge along with the certificate. Each shop can charge whatever they want. Some dealerships charge over $100 for their smogs. All shops are doing a "smog" test.
Two years ago I paid around $60 for a smog. I thought the certificate would be cheaper. What's the difference between SMOG and test only? Thank you for responding.
