It is checked the "old fashioned" way. With the car on level ground: crawl under the car; remove the auto tranaxle vent/plug; the trans oil should just weep out of the hole. This information comes from Chilton's Saturn L-Series 2000-2004 Repair Manual (No. 62370) pages 1-24 & 1-25.
