What is your question?
The ignition key is not the original key and has never actually work right. I had a little trouble tuning it on, but know it is stuck and I have to pull the plug wires to kill the engine. I believe I have read somewhere that this is a common problem with this make of car. Would you recommend a locksmith or car shop for repair?

I would try a locksmith first or at least get a quote, but just replace the switch assembly in any case. Labor guide says under an hour to replace and reprogram and part was under $100
had the some issue with our saturn original key. First time the car would not shut off, and the last time we replaced the battery. The battery was weak a gave an indictation on the dash. After battery replaced, the indication on the dash cleared up and was able to take the key out.
Thanks for your advise, that was my preference, to talk to a locksmith. This is what happened today. My neighbors son is pretty mechanically inclined he he came over and took it apart to get to the cylinder, which was pretty simple, but had trouble getting the cylinder all the way out. Because the tumblers were all loose inside. His grandson came and figured how to get it free. They ended up removing the loose tumblers, put the cylinder back in. Now I can start it with anyone's key. To get the cylinder out you have to insert a straightened large paper clip into the farthest hole from the key pull the cylinder forward then repeat that procedure in the next hole. If the tumblers are all loose and you can't get the plastic cover off around the stuck key, just cut the stuck key off with side cutter, but leave some of the key to get a hold of.
