My key fob will not turn in the ignition. I have been getting a "steering lock malfunction" while driving.

I have been getting a steer lock malfunction message periodically while driving, but the message goes away within a few seconds. I put my key in ignition this morning and it is locked. The fob will not lock doors or release trunk lid. Tried a spare key with the same result.
