Do the engine air vents located inside the front grill open in or out?

I just leased a 2018 base Macan. I purchased a license plate bracket that has spring loaded bars that extend into the grill to open clamps that will tighten around the horizontal grill bars. When attaching the brackets, I noticed air vents. The spring-loaded bars come to within an inch of the vents. If the vents open out, they might hit the bars. If they open in toward the engine, there is no worry about that then. So, can you tell me if the vents open in or out. If they open in towards the engine, no problem. If they open outwards, they might hit the spring-loaded bars. If they do open out, do you know how much they open? Are they perpendicular to the ground, more or less? Thanks, John P.S. I am told that the 2017 and 2018 models are identical so the vents should open the same in both models, yes?
