Is there a specific clutch assembly for my 2008 Pontiac Vibe 1.8 liter Vin #5Y2SL65858Z403285.. Had new clutch installed 6 months ago..Mechanic used generic clutch from AutoZone.. Now burned out and slipping badly.. I have read various internet reports on exact clutch replacements (?), but need info on specific manufacterer and model type.. thank you, Jim Parkevich

Hi, Jim. The 1ZZ-FE engine in your vehicle was used in lots of different Toyota's. So, when people ordered clutches for the Vibe, they would get back something that fit a Corolla, which shares the engine with your Vibe. Problem is it is a bad fit for the Vibe, so the proper part number is now something people search for. There are many manufacturers for them, just make sure that the clutch you view has a different part number than an 08 1.8l Corolla.
Casey..OK, this makes sense.. I have been in an 08 Corolla, it is far lighter than my Vibe.. Is this why the AutoZone clutch burned out so fast ?? Finally, can you suggest a site where I can search for the right clutch ?? I need to get back on the road soon.. My mechanic said this would be a "warranty" job to get a new clutch installed..Thanx for your insight, JIm Parkevich
No problem. That may be the cause, but maybe the flywheel was not resurfaced, bad part, etc.. So no way I could tell. I recommend using something like rockauto to find the part number you need, then google that specifically.
