What is your question?
In my 2007 Pontiac Solstice, the coolant temp sometimes reaches 240 degrees. But generally runs about 220-230 degrees. And the engine cooling fan continues to run for several minutes after the engine is shut down. Is this normal?
What makes this problem better or worse?
Warmer weather but generally fan runs after shutting down whenever it’s driven.
How long has your 2007 Pontiac Solstice had this problem?
Since I bought it July 2024

Hi, this is Bo, an auto expert on RepairPal's Car Genius team! It’s actually pretty normal for your 2007 Pontiac Solstice’s cooling fans to keep running for a few minutes after you shut off the engine, especially if the coolant temperature is on the higher side—like the 220-230 range you’re seeing. The fans are designed to help dissipate heat even after the engine’s off, ensuring the engine doesn’t cook itself from residual heat. So, when your car gets up to around 240 degrees, it’s likely that the fan is doing its job by cooling things down. However, if the cooling fan continues running for a long time, or if you're regularly reaching temperatures higher than 230 degrees, it could indicate a problem with the cooling system, like a stuck thermostat, low coolant, or an issue with the radiator. If you're consistently running hotter than the typical range, it might be worth having the cooling system checked out to ensure everything’s flowing smoothly.
