check engine light is on. on down shifting jerks, can manually down shift and stop most of the jerking

The shop manual states if you clear that code and it comes back, then you directly replace the transmission control module (TCM). If the problem does not come right back, it would be considered an intermittent concern and could be related to wiring possibly -- or could still be a faulty TCM.
