head gasket --- model is --sunfire gt

What is your question?

I just found out my car blew the head gasket, it has over 100,000 miles on it. Is it worth it to fix it for 1,500.00 or not. I am a female trying to figure out if I should keep or not,

can you replace the car for 1500?? if you own it free and clear then you would not any payments either. how is the condition of the car other than the head gasket?? all these factors are important in the decision. too many people bail out of a car and then spend 20 to 25 k for a car that only needed 1500 in work. in todays market, 1500 is sales tax on a new car. First off thanx for quick reply. I have replaced the fuel pump, coin, fuel filter, spark plugs, battery and tires, the belts look good,my fear is to replace the gasket and have to replace the water pump because I hear that would be real expensive. I own it free and clear and cannot afford to have payments

Good advice from Roy. Unfortunately the water pump replacement cost somewhere in the mid $600 and it could cause an overheating and cyl.head gasket problem and in this case you will have to replace it, but even than, $2100 won't buy you a 5 years old car. Least you know the condition of this one. Zee

I just noticed it said I have a 2006, It is a 1996, 5 speed. the body is in good shape and so is the inside. I love the car and want to keep and invest but all I hear is dont do it, so I am trying to figure out what to do. Of course the repair would have to wait 3 months for income tax refund time

Well, on the 1996 the w.pump cost more, about $150 for the pump and 8 hrs of labor, total will be around $800. Zee
