do not drive it with the cel flashing/blinking or converter will be destroyed very quickly again!
Any suggestions on what to check next? Have heard coil pack housing cracks with age. Not original owner so don't know what if anything has been replaced prior to what we have done in last 3 years. Runs good when check engine light not on. Goes out whenever we change some thing, this time only stayed out for 1 week, before that it was about 6-7 months. Very puzzling.
must be the 3.4L engine?check the coils real good for cracks arcing to a ground source.do all 3 of the coils have real good blue spark?if in doubt, take the coils off(mark the wires and coils first,so you'll know where to put em back)take them to have em checked at a parts house.take the ICM with you, have it tested also.also i assume you got the firing order right when you changed the wires?
It's the four cylinder 2.4 I believe. The firing order is correct, but when the plugs were changed the back 2 plugs the tips were vertically gone. Never seen them that bad before. After changing plugs, wires and fuel pump ran great for about six months then check engine light came back on. New catalytic converter, 02 sensors and egr valve...ran good until battery staring weakening. Replaced battery code cleared, 1 week later here we are with all the problems again. Driving us crazy.
NO. there is no 2.4L in a 2004 Pontiac Grand AM? it's either a 2.2L 4 cylinder and the plugs are straight in a line,no front and back.and it DOES NOT have wires?it's a one piece Cassette that sits down on the 4 plugs! or it's a 3.4L 6 cylinder, and it has 3 coil packs and 6 spark plug wires, and 6 plugs,2 wires on each coil?3 plugs in the front and 3 plugs in the rear?the 3 coils sit on top of the ignition control module!
My mistake, talked to my husband who actually did the work. 2.2 4 cyl and he said #1 & #4 plugs were really bad and he changed all the boots, not wires.
ok.you said the TIPS were gone?which end of the plug?the part that screws in the head or the tip that the boot goes on?and did someone BLOW all the crap out of the spark plug wells before removing the plugs?if not, whatever crap was in the plug wells could have fallen in on top of the pistons while the plugs were out!
