my 2000 pontiac grand am is leaking coolant and is not running what could it be?

i have had to add water to it serval times a day till yesturday i put water in at 9:00 am and have not added any since. i know that if the water pump goes it will run hot but its not. it stays at normal temp. i know that a leak cannot fix itself so what my question is what could be causing the leak.
