What is your question?
I purchased a 1997 GP. It didn't have the alternator on it so it was running off battery. After I put the alternator back on when I plug it in, the engine stalls. After doing this a couple of times I took the alternator off and had it checked. The tech said the alternator checked out fine. Any ideas
Hey, Thanks, Yes the battery as well as the alternator were out of the car. We put the battery back in (without the alternator) but it was dead so we had to jump it off to run the engine. Once we got it home we removed the battery and charged it. We then put it back in the car and installed the alternator but didn't plug the alternator in. It would then crank by the key and run fine but when we plugged the alternator in, it bucked a couple times and cut off. It did this a couple time before I removed the alternator to have it tested.
ECM has to relearn idle strategy any time battery is disconnected or engine will stall at idle... Start engine and keep it running by using throttle until it will idle again!
Still fighting this. Had the Alternator checked and it checked fine but the still the same thing. Did the relearn and pass code steps; same thing. To make double sure on the alternator I swapped the alternator with one from another car; same thing. I then started opening the harness to see how the wires looked inside. After about a foot (from alternator) I stopped because they still looked new. I then became suspicious of the computer. I ordered one programed to my VIN number; installed it; same thing @ran fine without the alternator plugged in, killed the engine when plugged in. Though the wires I looked at looked good, only thing I know to do now is to figure out were the wire from the alternator goes, cut it there and at the alternator and run a new one. Any ideas????????????
I am having the exact same problem on my 1997 did you find any solution to this problem please help me.
