I'm having a problem with the replacement glides for rear hatch motor housing

1987 Pontiac Firebird -I have replaced the 4 broken plastic glides that move the rear hatch housing/motor up and down to open/close the rear hatch but it does not move up and down easily enough for me to trust using it. With all 4 new glides installed, it fits too snug and I'm afraid I'm going to burn up the motor if it doesn't easily move up and down. I have added a lot of grease already. Could I use only 2 of the glides? Or should I sand down the glides so they aren't so wide? Other ideas?

What has changed from "factory" condition? has there been damage to the area? To me, if the area is in normal condition, replacing with original equipment parts that are deemed faulty should be sufficient. Other than that, seek guidance from a local body specialist who can weigh in hands on.
