What is your question?
oil is leaking out the timing cover seal (crank seal). i know some of those balancers are pressed on, is this one of those? anything else i should know about changing the seal before i get started? i was a mechanic for years, mostly chevy's, those i know but not much experience with these mopars. i would appreciate any tidbits of info before i tear into it. Thanks, Mark

The balancer will come right off but the belt drive gear may have to be pulled.. It's been a good while since I did one but I think I used to take a couple lady slippers (rolling wedge bars) and get it off with a little WD-40 sprayed on crank...or use puller!
There ain't but one way to FIX it.. Take it all the way down, install both cam seals, crank seal and timing componets + H20 pump!.. Other than that ... Button it back up and drive it!.. That's just how it is!
Yep, that's what I was thinking. It needs a serpentine belt so that's all it's getting. I'll just keep a good supply of oil on hand. Just doing my part to keep the oil companies in business. Also, the way it goes through oil I won't have to change it, just screw a new filter on once in a while. Thanks for your help, Mark
Is it possible to change the seal without removing the timing covers to get to that seal? Or am I going to have to basically remove the front of the engine to remove the covers then the gear to get to the seal? With the high mileage it would suck that in order to change an $8 seal I would have to spend $60 more for a timing belt and water pump because if I had to go that far into it then it only makes sense to replace those other items.
Seal is behind timing belt drive gear so.... All of it got to come off!... Sorry.
Me again. Before now I only looked under and saw about where the leak was. Today I took a closer look. Jacked it up and put stands under both sides to keep it level. Pulled the tire off and the cover that hides the lower engine. Cleaned things off so I could see fresh oil leaks. First, no signs of oil slinging from balancer. Although every seal and gasket (except oil pan) shows some leakage, nothing big. I did see quite a bit of oil on the back side (fire wall side) up to about where the head bolt on. Can't see above because of the exhaust manifold but doesn't look like much running down from valve cover. Started it. Crawled under and watched. It was almost 10 minutes before the first drop showed. It was dripping off the oil pan lip but didn't seem to be coming from the crank seal. No oil was slinging from balancer. I think it's running down from above somewhere. With all the brackets and crap it's hard to tell. I did see some oil hanging off what looks like the bottom of the timing belt cover. Could it be running inside the covers and dripping out the bottom? If it is the crank seal leaking shouldn't it have showed almost immediately, what do you think? I ran it for 30 minutes or more, the more it ran the more drips. After shut down it continued to drip albeit slower until it stopped. That tells me oil is running down from above, what do you think? What else is up there besides cam seals that could leak that much? If it's cam seals I'm not sure the car is worth it. I'd still have to remove the timing belt and replace it and the water pump because of the mileage and I'm already there so that's a no brainer. Then all the cam work to get to the seals. You opinion is appreciated. Thanks again, Mark
