What is your question?
My heat gauge shot up all at once and the engine hot light came on and my van shut down and wouldn't start. It never smoke and wasn't too hot. When I did get it started it would only drive in first gear. The mechanic is telling me I need my fans replaced but don't know why it would only drive in low gear. He is telling me its going to cost over $500 just for the fans. Could that be why it shot up so fast and why it would only drive in low gear and is that price for fans reasonable?

Thank you for answering. How long does it take to replace?
less than 1 hour..
Thank you for that. The mechanic I got an estimate from said the part was approximately $200 and that the total to fix it, which is replacing the fan assembly, would "eat up $500 easy". That was his exact words. Please tell me, is that too much for labor? Parts being $200 means labor would be $300.00 do I need to find another mechanic? He said it would take a minimum of 3 hours to replace the fan assembly.
rare for both fans to quit at same time,,,suggest getting other opinions/quotes...
Thank you
your welcome..rare for both fans to go out at the sames time.
They both didn't go out. Just one went out but he said with its assembly like it is, you have to replace both.
no, just change the motor, depending on which fan motor quit,if it's the Radiator Fan Motor>Driver Side>With Rear Air Conditioning it's $25.99...
It is the fan in front of the radiator is all I know and I do know that there is one big one and one smaller one right beside each other. I don't know which one went out. My van does have rear air.
