My air does not work on auto and it only works at high speeds

My ac started going out it will not blow at all unless it's on low and I'm on the interstate. As soon as I slow down or stop it stops. Some times it feels like there maybe heat coming out but only if I put it on auto and the recirculate air. I can not get the defrost to work either. I just bought the car and before I got it they had the raditor replaced it worked normal for about a week then some times it would t come on and others it worked perfect. Then boom it just stopped ... Some times I'll here a tapping or clucking noise so I turn it completly off and it stops. The compressor and fan are coming on the Freon is full n relay n fuae are good. Also the previous owner had 1300$ worth of work done on the ac please help me I'm a single struggling mom of 3 young active boys and its just awful in Louisiana summer heat in a car with no air. I've passed out already just minutes after getting out the car
