im changing the nuetral safety switch and everything came off fine. now when i go to put the cable back on the shaft its not lining up. transmission is in park so is the shifter. the nss is lined up with the shaft and can be installed easaly.

The shaft on the transmission has two "flat sides" get someone to wiggle the shift lever to get the cable to attach and seat onto the inhibitor switch shaft. Oldsmobile call it the park neutral switch. There is a company that independent auto repair shops get their information from, this same information is available inexpensively for people that work on their own cars.. The information is year make and model specific, covering repair procedures, torque specifications, fluid capacities and specifications, service bulletins, component locations, wiring diagrams ect.... Try to assemble it with the trans and shifter in Neutral position. ***MAKE CERTAIN the car has wheel chocks under it if its not on jack stands.
I tried that already and its like the cable isn't extending enough, I tried pulling on it to get alittle extra slack but got Nothing, do u think maybe something slipped in the transmission? I am a mechanic and this should've been a fairly simple job. Like I said, everything was fine until I went to go back together. And the new and old switches are identical actually the switch is plugged in and it is in park so is the shaft and the shifter. I am dumbfounded please help.....
