when using the heater, only cold air blows out the right air vents

This is a result of a faulty blend door. These doors direct either hot or cold air to the vents, depending on what you select. When they go, they lock in position, or return to the test position. In your case, stuck on cold. Not a fun repair, and I wouldn't recommend it to the DIY'er.
