My 2001 Aurora will hard shift,on occassion, but more often when warmed up, or driven for awhile. Does this sound more like a software problem, or valve controls? The weird part is, it will work fine for a day or so, then goes back to hard shifting. Any ideas? Thanks.

I dont think you have a software problem. When a software problem happens it will allways hard shift. I would have your transmission checked it may be symptoms of the transmission going bad.
I'm having the same problem have you ever gotten an answer to your question?
I disagree with #1 ......intermittent electrical can cause the transmission to go to a default mode of shifting which is basically a limp home mode, and preventing slippage in effort to exacerbate damage
