"Runs on the hot side" - determined by what? I would say: no, it shouldn't "run on the hot side". You'll be happy to know your 4 cylinder engine has a timing chain, not a belt. The timing chain is not recommended for replacement at any interval, and is expected to last during the useful life of the engine.
