Transmission problems

Check to see if the fluid is up to the proper level. Check the fluid with the car well warmed up and engine running in PARK with the parking brake on. The level should be between the 'ADD' and 'fULL" marks. The fluid should be pink and clear, and not smell burnt. If the fluid is low, add to it and get the leak fixed. If the fouid is black and burnt smelling, you may need a complete transmission overhaul. If the fluid checks OK, you need a transmission expert to advise you. You may not need a complete transmission overhaul, sometimes a symptom like you describe is due to a problem in the valve body in the transmission which is separately repairable from the main part of the transmission.
