Replacing the factory CD player with a Kenwood Radio

My 1992 Oldsmobile Regency Ninety-Eight has the optional factory CD player which mounts in the lower part of the dash, just to the left-center of the console. Can a new Kenwood KDC-HD548U radio fit into the car's original CD player location? I've taken the removable faceplate off the Kenwood radio and it will fit into the opening but only by using a little bit of force. The metal casing encompassing the back part of the Kenwood radio is 3/16" higher than the opening slot in the Oldsmobile's original CD player opening. Would the Kenwood radio fit if I installed it in that location by going in from underneath the dash to the factory CD player's opening? I understand that I probably wouldn't be able to remove the faceplate of the Kenwood radio once it's installed but that's okay with me. What is the easiest way to install that radio ... undo the console? ... undo the lower part of the dash? ... AND WILL THE KENWOOD RADIO FIT???

I already contacted a stereo shop (in person) that has been in business for over 35 years. The problem is: The dash location of my 1992 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight "RADIO" is all they are familiar with. The optional factory CD player is located to the lower-left of the radio. The stereo shop thought that the CD player was my heater control because I have an XM faceplate covering it. Any after-market radio that is installed in the original "radio" location faces up so you can't see the display while driving. Also, there's a dash "hang-over lip" just above the original radio location where you have to slightly "bend" a CD when you insert it into an after-market radio.

I have used them about 3 or 4 times and everything went great. I felt like an expert because it was so easy.
