What all should be involved in a transsmision rebuild?

My car is at a questionable tranny shop, and the price is already up to 1850 from 1000. They tell me there is a problem with the planetary gears, but when the car was brlought to them, the tranny had been progressively slipping more and more. I was thinking band replacement or pickup accumulator?
