What is your question?
Yesterday, my 96 Oldsmobile 88 died suddenly while driving down the road. Would start, spit and sputter, and die again. Power windows, locks, and seats wouldn't work. Didn't hear fuel pump. Had car towed to nearby auto shop recommended by tow company. Spoke with mechanic this morning, requested he check the ground wires in the driver's side floorboard, as this seems to be a common issue in these cars - and makes sense as to why those things all quit working. One of his employees called me back - it needs a fuel pump. I asked if he checked wires... He hesitated and stuttered "yes ma'am, they're fine" and gave me a heart attack w/ a quote of $705 for the repair. Before spending that kind of money (I'mstruggling financially and recently got promoted, but live an hour from my job so need my vehicle ASAP) I need advice on the issue and how to proceed. If the wires are "fine" why the loss of power to multiple components? Replacing the fuel pump seems expensive and unnecessary. Please help!
