What is your question?
My 2005 Nissan xterra 4.0 started to bog down and lose power right after the service engine soon light started to flash. I went and had diagnostics ran on the computer and the only code that comes up is the thermostat. Is it my emissions that's the problem? It makes a rough restricted growl when driving it also clacking when accelerating. And virtually no power
What makes this problem better or worse?
I havent made any decision to fix anything at this time
How long has your 2006 Nissan Xterra had this problem?
The problem just started a few days ago

Hello, The emissions system covers a great deal of components and other systems in the vehicle, and anything that effects the amount of emissions produced from burning gasoline will trigger the check engine light. That is the entire purpose of the check engine light. The temperature of the engine will certainly cause gasoline and air to burn less completely, therefore, a cool engine or very hot engine will produce excess emissions. With all of the issues you are describing, reading the codes will not be sufficient for this vehicle. You will need a full diagnostic scan, which will require a professional technician with professional grade equipment. Note: please don't wait - a flashing check engine light means stop the engine immediately.
