Rear dust plate

What is your question?

I have an 06 Xterra. The rear backing plate is rusted and needs to be replaced. One mechanic told me that the entire shaft needs to be pulled, another mechanic told me they just remove the hub and replace the bracket. I’m being told it’s a $2000 job. Do I need to remove the axle?
