Hi heater blower motor resistor got burn up what would cost that.?

Oh my heater has a little bit of heat coming out but it doesn't matter what speed I put the blower on. We did find a burnt up blower motor resistor and replaced it. But nothing happened differently. What would cause that to burn up? Is a funny noise when you turn the blower motor on and off from air conditioner to heat. Like something is trying to work but not working.
What makes this problem better or worse?
Consistent.
