What is your question?
When I put my foot on the brake so that I can get out of park I do hear a click,it's not the fuse i checked it. I read somewhere that a bad or a loose battery terminal would cause this problem
What makes this problem better or worse?
Using the screwdriver to get the button to work on the shifter
How long has your 2004 Nissan Xterra had this problem?

Putting your foot on the brake should activate the shifter interlock to release the shift button. If you are hearing the click noise and the shifter lever does not release, then there is likely a concern with the shift mechanism itself. The signal seems to be getting there, but the release is not happening. I don't know of a loose battery terminal being able to cause this. www.repairpal.com/repair-shops
