Hi, my name is Devin. I am an auto repair expert with the Car Genius team here at RepairPal. I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with your Versa. It sounds like you might be dealing with a weak battery, especially since it's the original one and has been in use for several years. When you park the car and then try to start it again, a weak battery may not have enough power to turn over the engine, which could explain the cranking sound that weakens. Another possibility is that the starter motor is failing. If it's beginning to fail, it may struggle to engage, especially when it is warm. Also, check the battery terminals for corrosion, as loose or corroded connections can prevent sufficient power flow. Lastly, consider having the alternator tested. If it has low output, your battery may become depleted after a drive.
