What is your question?
I have just replaced the cylinder on the rear drum brakes (aftermarket). Even though I have unhooked the brake line to remove pressure, I still cannot compress the new cylinder enough to fit the drum over the brake shoes. The self-adjuster is already shortened. It seems the cylinder is spring-loaded so it pushes out even with no fluid. What am I supposed to do to get the drum on?

Hi, this is Bo, an auto expert on RepairPal's Car Genius team! Sometimes, new shoes are a little tight! If your new rear drum brake cylinder on your is too extended to fit the drum over the shoes, try this: -Ensure the Adjuster is Fully Retracted: Double-check that the self-adjuster is as short as it can go. -Manually Compress the Cylinder: Sometimes, aftermarket cylinders can be a bit stiff. Use a C-clamp or brake piston tool to carefully compress the cylinder. If it's still not fitting, you might need to compare the new cylinder to the old one to ensure it's the correct part. If everything checks out and it still doesn't fit, consulting a mechanic might be necessary. Good luck! If you have any other questions, please call us at 877-913-1554!
