What causes the A/C light on the dash to stay lit?

The A/C switch on the dash comes on and off by itself causing the A/C to run. Activating the button does not control the A/C. It happens in all modes of operation. I have had it replaced one time and was advised that this is an inherent problem with this model. Is this problem, in truth, an inherent problem with this model? Are reliable replacement switches available? I recently replaced the clutch on my A/C unit. The technician stated that the failure was probably caused by the A/C unit constantly recycling.
